Nassau County High School Sports

Long Islanders are currently torn on whether to start school sports or not. While Suffolk County plans to power through and continue practices/games, Nassau County is still hesitant to make a decision. Their original decision was to postpone all sports until 2021 to ensure safety and open in-person schooling without having other distractions. This was certainly a tough decision due to the many parents and kids who were very upset about it. Many high schoolers in Nassau County depend on sports for social interaction, as well as a way to get into college. This has set back many students, and because of that, there have been protests all over Nassau county to have sports in the fall. People argue that low-risk sports such as soccer, swimming, track, and tennis should be allowed to continue this fall. While safety is incredibly important, these sports are low risk, and the enthusiasm to continue sports may sway Nassau county to change their decision.
